Akili Nix Obituary, Death – Police are actively investigating new leads in the fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Rochester’s South Wedge on Thanksgiving. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Akili Nix of Rochester, was discovered lying in the middle of Gregory Street around 3 a.m. on Thursday. Nix had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene without stopping, according to police reports.
After conducting interviews and gathering information from the public, investigators were able to determine that Nix had been hit by a 2015 Nissan Altima, which was dark in color. Authorities have indicated that there is a possibility the driver of the vehicle may not have been aware they had struck a person, which is why they may have continued driving without stopping.
Nix was immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital but was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. Despite the discovery of the vehicle involved, the police have not yet identified or apprehended a suspect in the case.
The investigation has now shifted to gathering additional details that could help identify the driver. Authorities are particularly encouraging residents and businesses in the surrounding Gregory, Hickory, and Ashland neighborhoods to come forward with any information that may help the investigation. Police have provided multiple avenues for the public to share tips, including calling the Rochester Police Major Crimes Section at 428-7157, Crime Stoppers at 423-9300, or emailing MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
The community’s involvement remains crucial in piecing together the details surrounding this tragic event, and authorities are continuing their efforts to bring closure to the case and determine the circumstances behind the fatal accident.
