Alvin J. Newman Obituary, Death – A 66-year-old Canton man has died after being struck by a vehicle while jaywalking in the Belden Village area of Jackson Township. The man, identified as Alvin J. Newman, succumbed to his injuries at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by Jackson Township Police Major Jim Monigold.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, November 30, around 8:55 p.m. Newman was attempting to cross Everhard Road NW, located just west of Whipple Avenue NW, when he was struck by a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer traveling eastbound. The SUV, driven by a 54-year-old man, collided with Newman while he was in the process of running across the road.
Newman was immediately treated for injuries at the scene and later transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following morning. Authorities are still investigating the details of the incident, but no additional information has been released at this time.
