Andy O. Hernandez, Jonathan J. Palafox-Pacheco Obituary, Death – A fatal three-vehicle crash on Whites Creek Pike claimed the lives of two men early Thursday morning.
Metro Nashville Police (MNPD) detectives determined that the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 70-year-old Robin Bernard of Portland, Tennessee, was traveling south on Whites Creek Pike. While navigating a curve near Sycamore Creek Road, Bernard veered into the northbound lane, colliding with a GMC Sierra pickup truck.
A dump truck, which had started braking after witnessing the crash, was unable to stop in time and struck the Malibu.
The victims, identified as Andy O. Hernandez, 22, and Jonathan J. Palafox-Pacheco, 20, were both from Springfield, Tennessee. Palafox-Pacheco died at the scene, while Hernandez was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Bernard sustained life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Skyline Medical. The GMC’s driver and passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the same hospital. The dump truck driver was not hurt.
Investigators found no evidence of impairment among any of the individuals involved, but the crash remains under investigation.
According to Smokey Barn News, Hernandez and Palafox-Pacheco were on their way to the airport in an Uber for a spring break trip when the accident occurred. A GoFundMe has been established to assist their families with funeral expenses.
