Anthony Welch Obituary, Death News – Authorities are investigating a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred over the weekend in St. Matthews, where a man was fatally struck by a vehicle.
Incident Details
According to St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson, the fatal collision took place late Saturday night around 11:30 p.m. The incident occurred on I-64 East, between Cannons Lane and the Breckenridge Lane overpass, near Bowman Field.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Anthony Welch.
Events Leading Up to the Tragedy
Wilkerson revealed that an altercation took place earlier in the night in downtown Louisville, near 5th and Chestnut Street, involving Welch and others in the vehicle. Following the dispute, the group decided to head home, and Welch got into the car with them. However, during the drive on I-64 East, another confrontation occurred. At some point, Welch exited the vehicle and was left behind on the highway.
Shortly after being left on the road, Welch was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Authorities suspect that a semi-truck driver may have been involved, possibly unaware of hitting Welch due to poor visibility at the time.
