Billy Joe Hicks Obituary, Death News – A man who was fatally struck by a vehicle last week on Homer Street had been residing in the vicinity and frequently patronized local businesses for their facilities, according to police reports. Billy Joe Hicks, aged 43, was positioned at or near the curb on the east side of Homer Street, just north of Vine Street, when a Ford F-150 pickup truck veered off the road after colliding with a Chevrolet Traverse around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection with Vine, subsequently hitting him on August 7, as stated by Lansing Township police. Hicks was later declared deceased at U-M Health-Sparrow Hospital.
Records from the state corrections department reveal that Hicks had absconded from parole in late February. These records indicate he was serving an active sentence for failing to register as a sex offender in Clare County, having been sentenced to a term of 13 months to 15 years in prison in September 2018.
According to police, Hicks did not possess a permanent residence, and it is believed he had been staying in the area where the incident occurred.
The initial investigation into the crash suggested that the driver of the Traverse, who had a stop sign on Vine, neglected to yield to the northbound pickup truck, as reported by Lansing Township Detective Sgt. Randy Volosky.
Both drivers involved in the incident were cooperative, and police did not suspect that intoxication or other aggravating factors contributed to the crash, Volosky noted last week.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
