Cary Canary Obituary, Death – A woman from LaPorte died early this morning in a crash involving a semi in LaPorte County. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 20 and County Road 300 East in Kankakee Township. According to police, a Kia traveling south on County Road 300 East failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a semi heading west on U.S. 20.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the Kia engulfed in flames. A deputy and a bystander attempted to rescue the driver from the vehicle but were unable to free her.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Cary Canary of LaPorte, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not injured in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
