Chester Lee Bates Obituary, Death – Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Monday night in Bedford County.
Authorities reported that 65-year-old Chester Lee Bates, a resident of Moneta, lost his life at the scene of the accident, which happened shortly after 7 p.m. on White House Road, about half a mile east of Sleepy Hollow Road.
According to police, Bates was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet 1500, traveling east on White House Road when his vehicle veered over the center line. As a result, his truck collided head-on with a westbound Lexus. Officials confirmed that Bates was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders transported the Lexus driver to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, authorities have not yet provided an update on the individual’s condition.
The crash remains under investigation as police work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
