Christopher Rodriguez Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the passenger who died in a rollover crash on Interstate 10 last week as 28-year-old Christopher Rodriguez of Cathedral City.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred in the early hours of March 12 on eastbound I-10, just west of Highway 62. Investigators believe the driver, 25-year-old John Hernandez of Thousand Palms, was under the influence at the time of the accident.
According to CHP Officer Jonathan Torres, Hernandez was behind the wheel of a 2024 Honda Civic when he lost control, causing the car to veer off to the right before rolling over at least once. Emergency responders from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived quickly at the scene and found Rodriguez dead on-site.
Hernandez survived the crash and was transported to a nearby trauma center for medical treatment. After receiving care for his injuries, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI gross vehicular manslaughter.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office officially released Rodriguez’s identity on Friday, more than a week after the tragic incident. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
