Cornelius Taylor Obituary, Death – The Fulton County Medical Examiner has determined that Cornelius Taylor, a 46-year-old man, died from blunt force injuries sustained during a January 16 sweep of a homeless encampment in Atlanta. Taylor lost his life when a city vehicle was clearing the encampment on Auburn Avenue.
According to the medical examiner’s report, Taylor suffered severe trauma, including a “widely displaced” pelvic fracture, extensive abrasions, and multiple lacerations. Dr. Shamaya Winters, who conducted the examination, concluded that his injuries led to significant internal bleeding, affecting his liver and spleen. The report classified his death as accidental.
An initial Atlanta Police Department report had suggested a possible drug overdose as the cause of death. However, the medical examiner’s toxicology findings indicated that while Taylor had cocaine in his system, he tested negative for ethanol and certain amphetamines.
Taylor’s family, along with their legal representatives, have raised concerns about the initial police report and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident remains under investigation. Updates will be provided as more information emerges.
