Cris Steenblock Obituary, Death – One individual lost his life in a shooting involving an officer in Abilene yesterday. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on August 1, 2024, in the 3800 block of North Ninth Street. The deceased has been identified as Cris Steenblock, a 39-year-old individual.
Reports indicate that the situation transpired following a domestic disturbance call. According to the caller, Steenblock was causing a disturbance, damaging property, and engaging in physical altercations with his parents.
Upon the officer’s arrival, Steenblock reportedly approached the officer in the street with weapons in both hands. Despite being instructed to drop the weapons, Steenblock failed to comply and continued to advance towards the officer. Subsequently, the officer discharged his service weapon, resulting in Steenblock being struck.
Steenblock was declared deceased at the scene by the Justice of the Peace. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the altercation. The officer involved has been put on administrative leave in accordance with standard procedures.
A simultaneous investigation into the shooting is being carried out by the Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety.
