David Allen Dunford Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot outside a Guthrie restaurant on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place shortly after 12:30 p.m. when Guthrie police responded to a welfare check in the parking lot of Billy Sims BBQ, located near Highway 77 and Industrial Road. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a man before shots were fired.
The man, later identified as 54-year-old David Allen Dunford, was struck by gunfire. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Hunter McKee of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
During the investigation, authorities discovered two weapons inside Dunford’s vehicle. However, it remains unclear whether he fired at police before being shot. Officials have not yet disclosed details about why officers opened fire or what led to the confrontation.
As standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
