David Helgesen Obituary, Death – One individual has lost their life, and two others have sustained injuries as a result of a collision involving two vehicles in La Crosse. As reported by the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene of the accident at the intersection of County Highway M and County Highway B in the Town of Hamilton on August 12, 2024, at 2:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered the driver of one vehicle, 75-year-old David Helgesen, unconscious. His passenger, 71-year-old Judy Bernett, was also reported to have sustained injuries. In the second vehicle, 47-year-old Joseph Northwood was found injured and trapped.
The investigation indicates that Helgesen’s vehicle failed to yield the right of way to Northwood’s vehicle, which was traveling southbound on County Highway M. All three individuals were transported from the scene due to their injuries.
Helgesen was later pronounced dead at Gundersen Health System, according to the press release.
The incident remains under investigation.
