David Henrichs Obituary, Death – A devastating apartment fire in Wadena over the weekend claimed the life of 68-year-old David Henrichs, officials confirmed. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office identified Henrichs on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but they do not suspect foul play in Henrichs’ death. In addition to the tragic loss of life, the fire left a dozen other residents without homes.
Recognizing the urgent need for shelter amid dangerously cold temperatures, Wadena County Sheriff Michael D. Carr requested assistance from the state. On Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order activating the Minnesota National Guard to provide temporary shelter for those displaced.
“My heart goes out to those enduring the devastation caused by the Wadena apartment fire and compounded by dangerously cold temperatures,” said Governor Walz. “As our neighbors recover, we will provide every resource necessary to ensure their safety. I am grateful to our first responders who are stepping up to provide necessary resources as the community recovers.”
Community members who wish to help can make financial contributions through a partnership between the city and the Initiative Foundation. The sheriff’s office is encouraging donations to support those affected by the fire.
