David Plagmann, Alexis Martin Obituary, Death – A fatal standoff between law enforcement and an armed suspect in Harlan, Iowa, on Thursday resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Initial Call and Standoff
Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. to the 1800 block of College Place for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they encountered 36-year-old David Plagmann, who was armed.
As deputies attempted to negotiate with Plagmann, he made aggressive movements toward them, prompting one deputy to fire at the suspect. Plagmann was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Second Victim Found at the Scene
During their response, first responders also discovered 31-year-old Alexis Martin dead at the location. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the circumstances of her death.
Investigation and Aftermath
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office stated that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave as per standard protocol. The case is currently under investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and the sheriff’s office.
