Dawn Nicole Wagner Obituary, Death – A woman was fatally shot in a Sacramento church parking lot, and authorities have identified her as 50-year-old Dawn Nicole Wagner. The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. Friday on Center Parkway, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where the incident took place, stated that Wagner had been there seeking comfort and support. In a statement, the church expressed condolences for her family, friends, and the community, urging people to come together in healing.
The shooting happened near the time of a Narcotics Anonymous meeting at the church, but Sacramento police clarified that it was not connected to the gathering.
Authorities say 64-year-old John Albert Binion of Sacramento later turned himself in at the Sacramento County Main Jail. Following an investigation, officers determined that Binion and Wagner knew each other, although details about their relationship or a possible motive have not been disclosed.
Binion has been charged with felony murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Jail records indicate he is being held without bail. He was arraigned Tuesday in Sacramento County Superior Court.
As of early Wednesday, police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have encouraged anyone with information to contact the Sacramento Police Department or submit anonymous tips via Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers or the P3 Tips app.
