DeSean Mackall Obituary, Death – On Monday, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) identified one of the victims of a series of shootings that took place over the weekend in the District. The victim, 23-year-old DeSean Mackall from Temple Hills, Maryland, was killed in a shooting that occurred in the early hours of April 6.
Around 12:45 a.m., MPD officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4200 block of Dix Street NE. Upon arrival, they found Mackall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders to save his life, Mackall was pronounced dead at the scene. This tragic incident marked the second fatal shooting between Saturday night and Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., as part of a larger string of gun violence in the city over the weekend. In total, there were four confirmed shootings across the District during this period.
Earlier in the evening, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on April 5, MPD officers were called to the 1100 block of Eastern Avenue NE in response to another shooting. There, they discovered another man who had been shot. Unfortunately, he also succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Shortly after, at around 11:15 p.m., police responded to another shooting incident, this time at the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE. In this case, a man had been shot but was still conscious and breathing. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The violence continued in Southeast D.C. just before midnight, where two women were shot at the intersection of Capitol Street and Anacostia Drive. One of the women suffered only a graze wound and was treated at the scene, while the other woman sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to the hospital for further care.
The string of shootings over the weekend has raised concerns among residents and local authorities alike.
