Delaware State Police have confirmed the identity of the 23-year-old man who was fatally shot on Wednesday night at a gas station in Newport.
Dinexvi Soriano Gonzalez, a resident of New Castle, was present at the Exxon located at 20 N. James St. for a prearranged altercation, as stated by law enforcement officials. He was affiliated with two groups that had convened at the location with the purpose of engaging in a fight.
At approximately 9:10 p.m., officers from Newport, in conjunction with Delaware State Police troopers, responded to a report of a shooting at the Exxon station. Upon arrival, they discovered Soriano Gonzalez in critical condition.
He subsequently succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. According to police reports, an “unidentified suspect” brandished a firearm and shot Soriano Gonzalez multiple times before fleeing the scene in an “unknown vehicle.”
