Dontavious Weekly Obituary, Death – A shooting during a basketball game in Yazoo City left one person dead and another injured, according to authorities.
The incident took place in the 300 block of Chapman Street just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28. A group of adults was playing basketball when an unidentified suspect opened fire.
One victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle. However, 29-year-old Dontavious Weekly of Yazoo City did not survive. Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers confirmed that Weekly was pronounced dead at the scene.
Yazoo City Police Chief Terry Gann stated that a suspect has been identified, but authorities are not releasing his name at this time. Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
The shooting has shocked the local community, leaving friends and family mourning the loss of Weekly. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as they work to locate the shooter and determine the motive behind the attack.
