Dr. Usha Mallik Obituary, Death – A professor from the University of Iowa lost her life, and several individuals sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision in Iowa. The incident occurred on Sunday along Highway 1, situated north of Solon. A representative from the University of Iowa confirmed to KCRG on Monday that the deceased was Dr. Usha Mallik, Ph.D., a 77-year-old Professor Emeritus at the institution. The Iowa State Patrol reported that a Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on 140th Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
According to troopers, the Jeep’s driver neglected to adhere to a stop sign at Highway 1, resulting in a collision with a camper being towed by another vehicle heading north on Highway 1. Authorities indicated that the Jeep penetrated the rear section of the camper and subsequently struck a third vehicle that was also on Highway 1. Dr. Mallik was operating this third vehicle at the time of the accident.
Officials confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Additionally, a fourth vehicle was impacted by debris from the camper. The driver of the first vehicle was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City, while three other individuals were transported by ambulance for medical attention. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
