Dyamund Shields Jr Obituary, Death – A father of three young children was fatally shot, and five others sustained injuries in a mass shooting that occurred early Monday morning near the intersection of 70th Street and Prospect Avenue. The deceased has been identified as Dyamund Shields Jr., aged 31, who was a parent to a newborn, a two-year-old, and a ten-year-old.
According to officers present at the scene, the incident unfolded around 2 a.m. following a confrontation among a large crowd. Police reports indicate that several individuals began discharging firearms before fleeing the vicinity.
Shields was located at the scene and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The five individuals who survived the shooting are reported to be in stable condition, as stated by a police spokesperson.
Emergency medical personnel also transported a second individual for medical care, while police noted that several others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Authorities are still working to ascertain the total number of injured parties.
Family members revealed that Shields was present in the area to serve food to individuals congregating on the block. They also shared a photograph of Shields alongside Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas in front of his food truck. Earlier today, the food truck, named “Chicken Mac & Cheese,” was removed from the site of the tragic shooting.
Numerous witnesses described the block as a popular gathering spot for young people on Sunday nights. The sidewalks and streets remain littered with debris from the aftermath. Desmound Logan, a lifelong acquaintance of Shields, expressed his belief that Shields was an unintended victim of stray gunfire.
“If you had a target on your back, I seriously doubt that you would be in a noticeable food truck out here every day,” Logan remarked. “He operated the food truck daily, so it is unlikely he would refuse to assist someone in need of napkins. What I am trying to convey is that he had no justification for being shot.”
Logan noted that there is a regular police presence on Prospect Avenue during the Sunday night gatherings. “We all know around here he was not the intended target, but if there were a secure environment for the food trucks and for people to gather, we would not be facing this situation.”
