Edgar Santana Obituary, Death – A second person has died following a severe crash early Thursday morning near Midway Airport, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. in the 5600 block of West 55th Street in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood. Authorities say a Ford Fusion was heading east when it attempted a U-turn and collided with a westbound Hyundai Palisade.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 28-year-old Edgar Santana of Chicago, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His passenger, 31-year-old Rocio Sanchez, was transported in critical condition to Advocate Christ Hospital but did not survive.
The driver of the Hyundai Palisade, a 29-year-old man, was hospitalized in fair condition at Advocate Christ Hospital. Three passengers in the Palisade also sustained injuries: a 20-year-old woman in unknown condition, a 32-year-old woman in fair condition, and a 17-year-old girl in fair condition.
No additional injuries were reported, and the Chicago Major Accident Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances of the crash.
