Fred Eromosele Ehimen Obituary, Death – A fatal crash in Howard County early Monday morning is under investigation by Maryland State Police.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Fred Eromosele Ehimen of Columbia, Maryland, was the driver and sole occupant of a Toyota Camry. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The crash occurred just before 12:30 a.m. on the ramp from westbound Interstate 70 to southbound U.S. 29 in Ellicott City. Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2013 Ford Explorer, driven by a 17-year-old from Baltimore, was traveling in the wrong direction on the I-70 ramp when it collided head-on with Ehimen’s Camry.
The teenage driver was airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment. Two passengers in the Explorer, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, were taken to local hospitals by ambulance.
Further investigations revealed that the Explorer had been reported stolen before the crash. Deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office had attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to a pursuit involving both the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Howard County Police Department. However, authorities had called off the chase several miles before the collision occurred.
Maryland State Police were assisted at the scene by the Howard County Police Department and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, which managed the road closure.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation, with potential charges pending consultation with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office.
