Gerber Danilo Panteleon-Palencia Obituary, Death – A Nashville man visiting family in East Texas was fatally shot on Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed. The Nacogdoches Police Department (NPD) responded to reports of gunfire on North Popp Street around 1 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the front yard of a home with at least two gunshot wounds.
The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Gerber Danilo Panteleon-Palencia of Nashville, Tennessee, was still conscious and provided officers with details about the incident before being rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Panteleon-Palencia died later that night.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect, 17-year-old Hernan Cuarenta of Nacogdoches. He was initially arrested on charges of aggravated assault and theft of a firearm. However, after Panteleon-Palencia succumbed to his injuries, authorities upgraded the aggravated assault charge to first-degree murder.
Cuarenta is currently being held at the Nacogdoches County Jail. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
