Gretchen Scotia Obituary, Death – Gretchen Scotia, a 61-year-old resident of Fresno, lost her life in a collision involving a commercial truck on State Route 180 on Friday afternoon, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The accident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of Hayes Avenue and State Route 180. Scotia, who was driving a Toyota Camry, was heading north on Hayes Avenue and approaching a stop sign at the intersection.
At the same time, a 39-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2013 Peterbilt truck, which was loaded with pistachios, northbound on State Route 180.
For reasons that are still under investigation, Scotia entered the intersection and drove directly into the path of the truck. The truck driver was unable to avoid the collision, and the truck struck the left side of Scotia’s Toyota. This impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road and onto the north shoulder. The collision also resulted in the pistachios from the truck spilling onto the roadway.
Scotia was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was unharmed and has been cooperating with the authorities. According to the CHP report, there were no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
