Hailey Trumble, Shelby Trumble Obituary, Death – Two sisters, recent graduates of Hannibal High School, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Thursday in Cayuga County. Hailey Trumble, aged 19, and her 17-year-old sister Shelby Trumble, both residents of Granby, were involved in the fatal incident at 6:25 p.m. at the intersection of Ira Hill Road and Farnham Road in the town of Ira, as reported by Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.
According to a press release from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department, one of the sisters was operating a 2005 Chevy Cobalt eastbound on Ira Hill Road when the vehicle crested a hill, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with a 2016 Jeep Cherokee driven by 59-year-old Robin Latham from Tully. The release did not specify which sister was behind the wheel.
Both Hailey and Shelby succumbed to the injuries they sustained during the crash. Latham was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was treated for serious injuries and remained in stable condition as of Monday. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the sisters’ vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic.
“It is with deep sorrow that Hannibal High School announces the untimely passing of two of our recent graduates, Shelby and Hailey,” stated Christopher Staats, Superintendent of the Hannibal Central School District. “Shelby, who graduated in June of this year, and Hailey, who graduated in June 2023, were beloved members of our school community, recognized for their gentle and kind spirits. They consistently brought joy to those around them and were profoundly cherished by all who knew them.”
Staats also shared fond memories of the sisters’ involvement in the Hannibal district.
“Shelby and Hailey were devoted animal enthusiasts,” Staats noted in an email. “Recently, they demonstrated their compassion by rescuing two abandoned kittens that required extensive medical attention, dedicating themselves to their care. Shelby had just completed the Cosmetology program at Oswego County BOCES, while Hailey had also finished her studies.”
