Harold Woodrow Thomas II Obituary, Death – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual who tragically shot and fatally wounded himself while disposing of trash on Tuesday, August 6. The cause of death for 58-year-old Harold Woodrow Thomas II was determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest, as reported by officials to MySA.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, Thomas was taking out the trash at his Northside apartment located in the 12400 block of Starcrest Drive around 6 a.m. when he lost his footing in the mud and fell down a slight incline.
Authorities indicated that the fall resulted in the firearm dropping to the ground and discharging accidentally, striking him in the chest. Emergency responders transported Thomas to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:40 a.m. KSAT has reported that Thomas was handling both the trash and his firearm at the time of the incident, with the weapon being discovered near the trash bags during the subsequent investigation.
This incident is not the first of its kind in San Antonio, as there have been previous cases of unintentional self-inflicted gunshot wounds. In 2020, a 12-year-old boy on the Westside of the city accidentally shot himself in the head at the Vista Meadow apartments.
In addition to these accidental incidents, several individuals in San Antonio have lost their lives due to stray bullets this year. An 80-year-old woman was killed in May when a stray bullet, fired during a confrontation, struck her while she was driving home from a high school graduation.
More recently, Ayden Burt, a woman visiting San Antonio for a coaching conference, was fatally shot while at a well-known rooftop bar. The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate her murder.
