Hilton Meyer Jr. Obituary, Death – A Milwaukee man has been charged with shooting and killing his uncle during an altercation near Holton and Center streets on March 16.
According to court records, police responded to the scene just before 8 p.m. and found 44-year-old Hilton Meyer Jr. lying on the street, struggling to breathe. Meyer had multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead within an hour.
Surveillance footage from the area showed Meyer walking with 28-year-old Samuel Dickerson and Dickerson’s girlfriend. The video revealed that as Dickerson’s girlfriend walked ahead, Dickerson suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Meyer’s chest, firing at close range. After Meyer was shot once, he was struck again in the back. Dickerson then stood over him and fired two more shots before leaving the scene and entering a nearby parking lot.
Family members, including Dickerson’s mother, identified both the suspect and the victim. They confirmed that the two men had been arguing earlier in the day at the mother’s home.
Following the shooting, investigators discovered that Dickerson had removed his court-ordered ankle monitor and discarded it in a trash can at a local donut shop. Over an hour after the incident, Dickerson fled to Madison with his girlfriend.
On March 17, a Madison police officer received a call from Dickerson’s girlfriend, who confessed that they had traveled to Madison and that Dickerson was responsible for killing his uncle. She also disclosed that he had left her apartment after she made the call.
Authorities quickly tracked Dickerson down at a bus depot, where he was attempting to board a Greyhound bus to Chicago. He was found trying to conceal his identity but was taken into custody without resistance. Upon searching him, officers discovered a handgun in his waistband.
Forensic analysis later confirmed that the weapon matched the gun used in Meyer’s murder. During police questioning, Dickerson admitted to the shooting.
Dickerson now faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon and illegal firearm possession as a convicted felon.
