Hong Huynh Obituary, Death – Portland police have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck in a Southeast Portland crash on Wednesday morning as 75-year-old Hong Huynh, a local resident.
Officers responded to the accident at approximately 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Southeast 109th Avenue and Division Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Huynh deceased at the scene, having been struck by a vehicle.
The driver involved in the incident was identified as 38-year-old April M. Oneal from Scappoose. Police reported that Oneal remained on the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Following an initial investigation, she was cited for an allegation of careless driving.
Huynh’s tragic death marks the 67th traffic-related fatality in Portland this year. This number brings the city alarmingly close to 2023’s grim total of 69 traffic fatalities, which was the highest recorded in more than 30 years.
