Jackie M. Rhodes Obituary, Death – A woman from Napa succumbed to injuries sustained in a suspected hit-and-run incident that occurred on Sunday in St. Helena. The St. Helena Police Department has identified the victim as 81-year-old Jackie M. Rhodes, a resident of Napa. The tragic event took place around 10 a.m. on Sunday in the 2800 block of Main Street, according to Lt. Justin Tharp of the St. Helena Police Department. Rhodes, known for her passion for walking, was traversing the shoulder—specifically the bike lane—heading north when she was struck and subsequently thrown into a ditch beside the road.
Lt. Tharp reported that Rhodes was conscious and alert when pedestrians found her shortly after the collision. Despite the medical efforts to save her, she ultimately passed away from her injuries at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. “Our thoughts are with Ms. Rhodes’ family and friends during this difficult time,” he added.
In response to the incident, the St. Helena Police Department promptly initiated a thorough investigation. Utilizing FLOCK automatic license plate reading technology, authorities quickly identified the suspect vehicle. With the collaboration of the Napa County Special Investigation Bureau, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, the Napa Police Department, and the Napa County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect, Dominic Carvalho, 43, from Yountville, was located and arrested. He was taken into custody late Wednesday and subsequently booked into the Napa County jail early Thursday on multiple felony charges, including felony hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, with bail set at $100,000.

Tharp. “The investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone with additional information to reach out to Officer Stephenson at the St. Helena Police Department at 707-312-1221.
