Jacob Shaw Obituary, Death – A man from Wisconsin lost his life following a collision in which his vehicle struck a service vehicle that was stationed on the shoulder of Interstate 55 in the vicinity of Bloomington. According to McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder, Jacob Shaw, 27, hailing from Kenosha, was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.
Illinois State Police have indicated that the cause of Shaw’s vehicle departing from the roadway around 2 p.m. on Tuesday remains undetermined. The operator of the service vehicle sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In a related matter, State Police issued a citation to a man from Florida who allegedly failed to yield to emergency personnel at the crash site approximately three hours after the deadly incident.
Caleb Steffen, 36, from Dunnellon, Florida, received a citation for improperly passing an emergency vehicle. Authorities reported that Steffen drove through the accident scene, nearly colliding with both troopers and crews from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Law enforcement successfully halted Steffen’s vehicle on I-74 near Mahomet, located in Champaign County.
State Police noted that a first offense of the Move Over Law incurs a fine ranging from $250 to $10,000. Furthermore, a violation resulting in injury may lead to a suspension of the driver’s license for a period of six months to two years.
