James Roosevelt Winsto, Corey Allen Byrd Obituary, Death – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a deadly crash that claimed three lives on Monday, March 31, in Botetourt County.
The accident occurred around 6:22 p.m. on Roanoke Road (Route 220), in the 7500 block, when a 2016 Jeep Wrangler traveling south veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with a tree.
Authorities identified the driver as 61-year-old James Roosevelt Winston of North Chesterfield. Winston was pronounced dead at the scene and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Two passengers, 50-year-old William Julian Cosby and 34-year-old Corey Allen Byrd, also lost their lives in the accident. Police reported that neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt.
According to investigators, speed is believed to have played a role in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine additional contributing factors.
