Jamie Lynn Still Obituary, Death – Law enforcement officials reported that deputies fatally shot a man in a southwest Georgia town after he discharged a firearm at them. According to Sumter County Sheriff Eric Bryant, deputies responded to a residence on the outskirts of Americus on Wednesday night following a 911 call from a woman who indicated that a man was barricaded inside the home with a weapon. The individual was identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as 45-year-old Jamie Lynn Still from Americus. The caller described Still as “acting very erratic and was intoxicated,” and mentioned that she was trapped in the house with three children while Still had been “physical with her.”
Upon the deputies’ arrival, Still emerged onto the front porch armed with a rifle, fired a shot, and then retreated back inside, as stated by Bryant. Investigators from the GBI reported that Still refused to comply with demands to surrender after additional officers arrived and attempted to communicate with him.
When Still reappeared and fired again, deputies returned fire, striking him before he fled back into the house. Sheriff Bryant noted that deputies were simultaneously assisting the woman and the three children in escaping through a window. Once they were safely out, deputies entered the residence and discovered Still lying on the floor. He was pronounced dead by the time medical personnel arrived, according to the sheriff.
No injuries were reported among the officers involved.
The GBI is performing an autopsy on Still’s remains and is conducting an investigation, which is standard procedure for police-involved shootings in Georgia. Following the completion of this investigation, District Attorney Lewis Lamb will determine whether to pursue any criminal charges against individuals involved.
