Janet Chapman Obituary, Death – On Friday, a tragic head-on collision involving an ambulance resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a paramedic, as reported by the Arkansas State Police. The incident occurred at 10:26 a.m. on State Highway 18, at the intersection with Highway 158 in Lake City. As per the initial fatal crash report, 67-year-old Janet Chapman from Blytheville, Arkansas, was travelling eastbound when her 2024 Nissan Sentra veered into the westbound lane.
The state police indicated that Chapman’s vehicle collided head-on with a westbound 2018 Ford E-350 ambulance, which was operated by 54-year-old Cheri Gibson of Paragould, Arkansas. Both Chapman and Mark Gibson, the paramedic who was aboard the ambulance, lost their lives in the incident.
Cheri Gibson, an EMT, along with the ambulance’s passenger, 72-year-old Phyllis Moore from Manila, Arkansas, sustained injuries in the crash.
Emerson Ambulance Service confirmed on Friday afternoon that one of their ambulances was involved in the accident. The company issued a statement requesting the community to keep the crew involved in their thoughts and prayers. The West Memphis Fire Department, where Cheri Gibson has served for nearly three decades, also called for prayers for her recovery and for the extended Gibson family.
They urged the community to remember Cheri as she heals from her serious injuries, as well as to support the Gibson family and the families of the other victims during this difficult time. In a tribute to his years of service, the West Memphis Fire Department organized an escort of red and blue lights for Mark Gibson’s body to Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Sunday.
