Jaquante Montgomery Obituary, Death – A fatal shooting at a Walmart in Sumter, South Carolina, left a 24-year-old man dead, with authorities identifying the victim as Jaquante Montgomery of Sumter.
The incident occurred on Friday inside the lmart Supercenter located at 1283 Broad Street. According to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office, Montgomery was shot multiple times and was transported to Prisma Health Toumey, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Sumter police arrested 19-year-old from a prior dispute between the two men. Police Chief Russell F. Roark III stated that Lowery turned himself in to authorities later that day, accompanied by his parents.
Prior to Lowery’s arrest, police had released photos of a person believed to be involved in the shooting and offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the suspect’s capture. Officials later confirmed the individual in the images was Lowery.
The Sumter County Coroner, Robbie Baker, announced that an autopsy is scheduled for February 18 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
