Jaquelynn Wray Obituary, Death – A man who was injured during a shootout with Palm Bay police last week continues to be on life support, as authorities have identified the 23-year-old woman they believe he killed in a domestic-related incident. The victim, who was fatally shot during the incident on Friday, has been named as Jaquelynn Wray, the sister-in-law of the shooter, 29-year-old Joseph Fleming. No information regarding the motives or circumstances leading to the shooting has been disclosed.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the agency expressed, “Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.” This incident marks the fourth officer-involved shooting in Brevard County this year, with law enforcement encountering armed individuals in each case.
According to police reports, Wray was killed while attempting to assist another family member involved in a domestic dispute that escalated into a shootout between Fleming and responding officers. Police arrived at the residence on Jefferson Avenue around 9 a.m. to investigate a report of a “suspicious incident.” Shortly thereafter, officers reported hearing a gunshot from within the home.
Fleming emerged from the residence and discharged multiple rounds at the officers, as stated by Palm Bay Police Chief Mario Augello. He subsequently fled toward nearby homes but was later located with injuries. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
Fleming was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. Following standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Brevard County, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called to oversee the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The officers involved, identified as Thomas Baker and John Neal, are currently on administrative leave as the FDLE conducts its investigation. The findings of this inquiry will be communicated subsequently.
