Jason Torres-Celis Obituary, Death – A fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer in north Charlotte last week claimed the life of a young driver, whom authorities have now identified.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to the crash just before 2 a.m. on Friday, March 7, near the intersection of Sunset Road and Statesville Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a heavily damaged black Infiniti G35 that had collided with a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Infiniti, 19-year-old Jason Torres-Celis, was ejected from the vehicle due to the impact. Tragically, he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, Torres-Celis had been driving at a high speed along Sunset Road when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median, and crashed into the tractor-trailer. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
It remains unclear whether impairment played a role in the crash, as toxicology results are still pending. Meanwhile, Sunset Road was closed for several hours while officials conducted their investigation.
