Jordan Benjamin Burleson Obituary, Death – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who was shot and killed outside a party at an unregistered short-term rental home on the North Side of the city. The victim, Jordan Benjamin Burleson, was fatally shot early in the morning on July 31, shortly before 3 a.m., in a driveway across the street from the gathering at a residence located in the 4600 block of Hawthorn Woods, near Loop 1604 and Lockhill Selma Road.
Police reports indicate that there were at least 20 people present at the party, which was being held at the short-term rental home. During the event, multiple gunshots were fired, and Burleson was found dead in a driveway across the street.
A woman who attended the party told KSAT that the group, mostly from San Antonio, was celebrating the birthday of someone who had passed away and was also filming a music video. She mentioned that Burleson, a San Antonio native and U.S. Navy member, was visiting his hometown. He had stepped out of the house to get food when he was shot.
The woman speculated that the shooting might have been a case of mistaken identity or retaliation.
Officer Nick Soliz, a spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), stated that an unknown number of suspects fired 10-15 rounds from what was believed to be a rifle. Burleson was struck multiple times. The woman at the scene attempted to administer first aid and perform CPR until police arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the shooting, some individuals believed to be involved barricaded themselves inside the home. They eventually surrendered peacefully after negotiators and SWAT officers used a loudspeaker to communicate with them. In total, eight people were extracted from the house, and firearms were discovered both inside and outside the residence. Others at the scene fled before the authorities arrived.
