Joseph Amos Obituary, Death – A fatal crash near Lake Charles on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of 60-year-old Joseph Amos of Lafayette.
Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating the incident shortly before 4 p.m. after a single-vehicle crash occurred on eastbound I-10 near Hungerford Road.
According to investigators, Amos was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado in the right lane while an 18-wheeler traveled east in the center lane. For reasons still under investigation, the semi-truck began merging into the right lane, prompting Amos to steer onto the right shoulder and briefly slow down. It remains unclear if the 18-wheeler made contact with the Chevrolet.
As the Chevrolet attempted to accelerate past the truck on the shoulder, Amos lost control of the vehicle. The truck rotated off the road and struck a tree, resulting in his death at the scene.
Authorities collected a toxicology sample from Amos for further analysis. Troopers have since identified the 18-wheeler and its driver, and possible charges are pending.
The crash remains under investigation, and officials urge anyone with information to contact Troop D at 337-491-2511 or report anonymously through the LA Safe “Suspicious Activity” link.
