Joseph Falciani – A deadly shooting in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, left one man dead and another in custody on Wednesday, according to local law enforcement and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities responded to a home on East Cresse Avenue just before 4 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers discovered 63-year-old Joseph Falciani inside the residence. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also inside the home was the suspected shooter, identified as Carmine Neri. When officers took him into custody, they found a firearm tucked into his back pocket. Neri was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and a weapons offense.
According to witness accounts, an argument between the two men escalated before a gunshot rang out. Investigators also discovered that an office door inside the home near the shooting scene was locked and appeared to have been kicked or forced in an attempted break-in.
Law enforcement remained at the scene for several hours, investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Police finally reopened the surrounding streets near Cresse and New Jersey avenues around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to the incident. Neri remains in custody at the Cape May County Correctional Facility as legal proceedings continue.
