The accident occurred around 2 p.m. as Hernandez was driving east in the scenic mountain area. According to police, he attempted to pass a pickup truck when, at the same time, the pickup driver also moved into the passing lane to overtake another vehicle. This sudden maneuver put the two vehicles on a collision course.
In an effort to avoid a crash, Hernandez swerved sharply, causing him to lose control. His vehicle veered off the road and overturned. Tragically, Hernandez was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
