Justin D. Sprang Obituary, Death: A tragic incident occurred on Beaver Dam Lake in Greene County on Saturday, resulting in the death of a young man after he fell through the ice.
According to a statement from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report at approximately 5:57 p.m. that two individuals had fallen through the ice at Beaver Dam Lake, which is located within the Hillenbrand Fish and Wildlife Area.
A Jasonville Police Department (JPD) officer quickly responded, arriving at the scene by 6:04 p.m. Upon arrival, the officer spotted one of the individuals in distress and was able to rescue him using a rope throw bag.
However, the officer soon learned that a second person had also fallen through the ice and had not resurfaced.
Authorities immediately launched a search operation. At approximately 8:21 p.m., divers from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) used a remote-operated vehicle to locate and recover the body of the missing individual, who was found 16 feet underwater.
The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Justin D. Sprang.
As of now, no further details have been released regarding the circumstances surrounding Sprang’s death. The incident remains under investigation.
