Kasey Trent Obituary, Death – A fatal crash in Shrewsbury Township, Pennsylvania, early Thursday morning claimed the life of a Maryland man and caused a significant propane leak.
Victim Identified
The Pennsylvania State Police identified the deceased as 29-year-old Kasey Trent of Freeland, Maryland.
Crash Details
Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 1:54 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious accident. The crash occurred on Seltz Road/Route 851 at its intersection with Country Club Road. According to investigators, Trent was driving southbound on Seltz Road when he attempted to navigate a left curve at high speed. However, he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.
Propane Leak Incident
In the process of crashing, Trent’s vehicle struck a gas line, triggering a propane leak. Emergency responders quickly arrived to assess the situation. The York County Hazmat Team was deployed to the 2300 block of Seltz Road, where the gas leak was reported.
Officials found that the crash had damaged the valves of an underground propane tank, which had some components extending above ground. The rupture in the system led to a hazardous propane leak, requiring immediate attention.
To mitigate the danger, the hazmat team initiated a process known as “flaring.” This involves safely burning off the remaining propane to prevent further risks. As of 10:30 a.m., officials reported that the flaring operation was still in progress and expected to take several more hours.
Emergency Response and Displacement
Given the hazardous situation, authorities had to take extra precautions. The American Red Cross was called to assist individuals who were displaced due to the gas leak. Officials did not specify how many residents were affected by the incident.
Other Fatal Crash in York County
This tragic accident was one of two fatal crashes that emergency crews handled in York County that morning. Earlier, at approximately 12:50 a.m., the York County Coroner was called to another deadly crash on Route 30. That roadway was temporarily shut down for investigation but has since reopened.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether any additional factors contributed to the accident beyond excessive speed. Further updates may be provided as more details emerge.
