Laquitta Charisse Dunn, Anthony Jackson Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the two individuals who lost their lives during a domestic-related shooting incident in west Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased as Laquitta Charisse Dunn, aged 49, and Anthony Jackson, aged 76. The shootings were linked to domestic issues, with acquaintances of the suspect indicating that he seemed to have suddenly lost control. The suspect was apprehended within five hours following the incident.
While his identity has not been disclosed pending formal charges, law enforcement officials reported that his father and grandfather were among the four victims. The suspect’s father is in critical condition, and Jackson is identified as his grandfather. The violent events commenced at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, when officers from the West Precinct responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims at a residence located in the 1600 block of Dennison Avenue. Upon entering the premises, officers discovered Dunn, a cherished mother and grandmother, injured inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 p.m.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that they were informed of another male victim who had sustained injuries during the Dennison Avenue shooting but was not present when the police arrived. This individual later arrived at Princeton Baptist Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transferred to UAB Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Fitzgerald also mentioned that the suspect may have discharged his weapon in the vicinity of the 1400 block of 17th Place S.W., which is near the initial crime scene. Police proceeded to that location, gained entry, and discovered Jackson and a woman in a basement den area. Jackson was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m. by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. The woman was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities suspect that the shooter coerced another individual into driving him from the Dennison Avenue residence to the 17th Place S.W. location. He managed to escape prior to the arrival of law enforcement but was apprehended in Five Points West around 9:15 p.m. following an extensive search operation that involved Jefferson County’s Star 1 helicopter.
The suspect’s grandfather and a family friend were among those shot.
