Lavaughn Lewis Obituary, Death – Lavaughn Lewis, 49, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Topeka, which took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The Topeka Police Department confirmed his death late Wednesday afternoon.
According to Rosie Nichols, a public safety communications specialist for Topeka’s city government, officers responded to a shooting call at 5:19 p.m. on Tuesday, located in the 2000 block of S.W. 12th Street, between S.W. Jewell and Woodward. Upon arrival, police found Lewis with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the 20th homicide in Topeka for the year.
In response to the crime, officers cordoned off the area with yellow crime scene tape, specifically around the front and southeast side of the house at 2014 S.W. 12th, where the incident occurred.
The Topeka Police Department is actively investigating the case and has called on the public for help.
