Lowell Sibley Obituary, Death – A section of Interstate 65 in Shelby County is currently closed as authorities investigate a fatal accident that occurred on Tuesday. Lowell Sibley, aged 70, was heading south on I-65 in Alabaster when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The incident took place approximately one mile north of Alabaster.
The resident of Oneonta was transported to Shelby Baptist Medical Center, where he was declared dead shortly after his arrival, according to Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans. Sibley was operating a Nissan Frontier that was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer driven by 37-year-old Tristan M. Rose from Maylene.
Following the initial impact, the Nissan Frontier rolled over several times. At the time of the accident, Sibley was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced that all southbound lanes of I-65 between exit 242 in Pelham and exit 238 in Alabaster were closed at 11 a.m. on Wednesday for an indefinite period to facilitate the investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency into the fatal incident.
Traffic will be redirected to Highway 31.
Sibley’s death marks the second fatality on I-65 in Shelby County within a span of two days. On Sunday, 32-year-old Shahla J. Noori lost her life when her vehicle collided with the rear of an SUV.
