Lundy Braun Obituary, Death – The Cranston police have confirmed the identity of a woman who was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday evening. Emergency responders arrived at 41 Strathmore Road at approximately 7:40 p.m. and discovered an unresponsive woman at the end of the driveway. Rescue teams performed CPR and other critical life-saving procedures.
The deceased has been identified as 77-year-old Lundy Braun, a resident of Cranston, who was subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist reported that the driver, a 25-year-old woman from Pawtucket, along with a passenger, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation.
The driver stated to the police that she was reversing out of the driveway and was unaware of anyone behind her until she felt the impact of the collision. Upon realizing she had struck the woman, she immediately sought assistance. According to Chief Winquist, there were no indications of alcohol or drug impairment on the part of the driver.
The 2009 Toyota Highlander involved in the incident was towed to the Cranston police department for further investigation. Authorities noted that Braun was a regular walker in the vicinity, which is close to her residence. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Braun’s family during this difficult time, as well as with the driver and passenger, who were understandably very shaken,” stated Winquist.
No charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
