Discovery of the Incident
Authorities responded to two separate crime scenes on Thursday afternoon, following a report of a deceased individual. The first scene was in the 4900 block of Council Street NE, where officers found a person who had died from self-inflicted wounds. That individual has been identified as 54-year-old Lynn Martin of Cedar Rapids.
Shortly after, officers were called to a second location in the 4400 block of Regal Avenue NE. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of two additional victims, later identified as 87-year-old Rita Martin and 57-year-old Alan Martin, both of Cedar Rapids.
Family Connection
According to information from The Cedar Rapids Gazette, an obituary from the year 2000 for Howard W. Martin—Rita Martin’s late husband—indicates that Lynn Martin and Alan Martin were the couple’s sons. This suggests that the victims were part of the same family.
