The unexpected maneuver forced Mier to lose control, veering off to the right before striking a wooden telephone pole. The impact caused him to be ejected from his motorcycle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. A Los Angeles County Fire Department captain pronounced Mier dead at the scene. His injuries were severe, and he did not survive the impact.
