Mason Evich Obituary, Death – A tragic accident on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge late Thursday night resulted in the death of a Fairhaven man, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Route 6. Troopers responded to the scene and began their investigation into the collision.
Preliminary findings suggest that a vehicle traveling west on Route 6 in New Bedford crossed the double yellow line and entered the opposite lane, colliding head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
The driver who veered into the wrong lane sustained injuries but survived. Police confirmed that this individual was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.
Tragically, the other driver, identified as 28-year-old Mason Evich of Fairhaven, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Authorities shut down traffic lanes for approximately two and a half hours while they conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.
The Massachusetts State Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the cause of the driver’s lane departure and whether any additional factors contributed to the accident.
