Matthew Taggart Obituary, Death: Authorities in Bowling Green are investigating a fatal shooting after a man allegedly broke into an apartment in the complex where he lived early Sunday morning.
According to the Bowling Green Police Department (BGPD), officers responded around 1 a.m. to a reported burglary in progress on the 1300 block of Scottsville Road. While police were on their way, the resident of the apartment remained on the phone with emergency dispatchers, describing the situation in real time.
The resident reported that an unknown individual was forcefully kicking the apartment door in an apparent attempt to gain entry.
Eventually, the intruder managed to enter the apartment, at which point the resident allegedly shot and killed him.
The deceased individual was later identified as 23-year-old Matthew Taggart. Upon investigation, authorities determined that Taggart also lived in the same apartment complex.
Police stated that evidence suggests Taggart may have been impaired and mistakenly entered the wrong apartment before the fatal encounter.
The incident remains under active investigation.
